Genre: House

I love the bits of camera snaps in this tune.

3. Late June – Stay Close To Me

Genre: Dance

Sticking to the emotional, late night drive themes, this tune fits the bill.

Top Monthly Tune Recap – April 2017

I can’t believe it’s already that time again. This year is moving in a hurry! Without further delay, here is your top tune recap for April:

1. Moby – Are You Lost In The World Like Me (Bite Me Remix)

Genre: Trap

One criterion for my top tune is the its’ replayability. This tune has been on repeat for a while. I love the trap take on this, but it’s the lyrics that get me everytime.

2. Khen – Baby Steps

Genre: Progressive House

This is my favorite tune of Khen’s latest EP. This is the perfect tune for a late night drive or winding down at a club. The real magic happens around the 3:00 min marker.

3. Ólafur Arnalds – Öldurót (Tontario Remix)

Genre: Deep House

I still get chills everytime I listen to this tune. Öldurót is probably the most emotional song in this entire recap. Keep an ear out for the crackling bottle sounds.

4. Terror Reid – Uppercuts

Genre: Hip Hop

If you’ve been following my recaps for a while, you know I’m not a huge hip-hop fan. However, once I heard Uppercuts, I had to include it in my top recap. I love Terror Reid’s effortless flow and the old school beat.

5. Xan Young – Honest

Genre: Electronica

This happens to be the oldest tune in my recap, but I only recently found out about it! The combination of smooth, r&b-ish vocals with synths and claps is amazing.

6. Cirez D – On Off (Pryda Remix) [Pete Tong – BBC Radio 1]

Genre: Progressive House

I came across a comment relating to this track ‘Prydzception’. I couldn’t think of a better way to describe this hah. For those that are not familiar, Pryda is an alias of Eric Prydz. So is Cirez D. Yep.

7. Big Wild – Empty Room (feat. Yuna) [Elderbrook Remix]

Genre: Electronica

Elderbook’s remix of this tune is great. Part disco feel, part jazz funk, this tune is made for a summertime party.

8. Alex Preston & Dave Winnel – Never Meant To Last ft. Javeon (VIP Mix)

Genre: House

Summer. Festival. Season.

9. Bontan & Josh Butler – Call You Back

Genre: Tech House

Anything Bontan or Josh Butler is an automatic win for me. This is a fun tech house tune with a catchy hook.

10. Matt Lange – Clever Girl

Genre: Rock

I’ve been a fan of Matt Lange for a long time now. His work is constantly envolving. Since his recent departure off on his own (self-releasing tracks), his sound has changed as well. Clever girl features all vocals and instrumentals by Matt.

Top Monthly Tune Recap – February 2017

Greetings party people. Without further ado, I present my top tune recap for the month of February. Enjoy!

1. JOYRYDE – Hot Drum

Genre: Future House

JOYRYDE is my favorite artist of the year so far (it’s only February). The best part of this tune is where the drums kick in. Go, listen, now!

2. Mosa Wild – Smoke

Genre: Indie

I’m a big fan of the band The National and Mosa Wild definitely parallels that band. The beauty of this tune lies in the emotion it evokes – particularly that of loss.

3. Shout (Grum Remix)

Genre: Trance

This is a really great trance take on the classic Tears for Fears tune ‘Shout’.

4. Lane 8 – In My Arms

Genre: House

Lane8 has been featured in my countdowns a few times and for good reason. His production skills are amazing. His latest track features a beautiful blend of synths and minimal vocals.

5. Nora En Pure – Diving With Whales (Daniel Portman Remix)

Genre: Progressive House

Nora En Pure tunes are already perfection. This remix does the original tune justice, maintaining much of its’ original beauty, with subtle tweaks.

6. Jynx – Honey

Genre: House

This tune is off the latest EP Saffron City. Definitely one of the edge cases where a choppy composition and disjointedness work.

7. Hervé – My Love feat. Phizzals (KC Lights Remix)

Genre: House

A bouncy house tune remix. Time to dance.

8. Maroon 5 – Cold (Audio) ft. Future

Genre: Pop

What drew me most to this tune were the relatable lyrics. There are many of us out there that have been through confusing or failed relationships, often times the other party creeping away for what seems like no good reason. Check out the lyric snippet:

Are we taking time, or a time out?
I can’t take the in-between
Asking me for space here in my house
You know how to f*k with me

9. Gladiator – Sierra

Genre: Trap

You’ll want to put the volume up for this fresh trap tune.

10. Blvmenkind – Dream With You (feat. Sam Darton)

Genre: Electronic

Fans of ambient or chill music will enjoy this tune. I love the dreamy vocals. This is the perfect track for a long drive or a lounge on the beach.

Welcome to the first recap of 2017! Thanks for taking the time to check out my post and hope to see you all year long. This year hasn’t started off on an amazing note, but I’ve come across so many inspiring tracks featuring a variety of vocals and music elements. I hope you enjoy these tunes as much as I do.

1. IHF – Departure

Genre: Electronic

I may have broke the repeat button on this tune. Departure is comprised of so many interesting musical components, but my favorite has to be the Erhu-sounding (Chinese violin) samples.

2. Grandson – Bury Me Face Down

Genre: Alternative

Whether you’re suffering from internal turmoil due to national events, or even a personal crisis, this is a great ‘F U’ anthem. Have a listen. Here’s just a sample set of lyrics:

When I go into the ground
I won’t go quietly
I’m bringin’ my crown

3. Jorgen Odegard – Save Me (feat. Audrey English)

Genre: Electronic

January’s recap definitely features tunes with more emotionally heavy undertones. I am absolutely in love with Audrey’s soulful voice and I can relate to a lot of this tune. Another set of gripping lyrics:

Who’s gonna save me now?
How many drinks until I can’t stand?
Will I wake up on his side of the bed
Who’s gonna save me now
Where will I be at 40
and when will it feel normal again?

4. Golden Features – Funeral

Genre: Electronic

Creepy bass. Bass. Creepy. More bass. This may be the most accurate review ever. Carry on.

5. Kodak Black – Too Many Years ft. PnB Rock (Baauer Rewind)

Genre: Hip Hop

I love Baauer’s UK garage take on this Kodak Black tune. I wish this one were a bit longer.

6. Alon Mor – Presudeos

Genre: Good question

Is there a genre called Mindf**k? If so, this tune fits the bill. Part raw, part cinematic, part scary, this is a tune that will play all kinds of tricks with your mind.

Genre: Electronic

The Odds soulful voice plus the stellar production style of Bronze Whale land this tune in my top recap of the month.

9. Luca Debonaire – Walking On Clouds (Croatia Squad Remix)

Genre: House

Another solid house gem from Croatia Squad.

10. Throttle x Michael Bublé – My Kind Of Girl

Genre: House

I feel like I needed to end this countdown with something fun amidst all the heavy tracks this month. Throttle does a fantastic house re-work on this Michael Bublé tune. Get your dance on.

1. Breaux – Third Man

Genre: Trap

I absolutely love the trap spin on classic beats. If you want to be transported to the 20s, but a cooler, more futuristic version of the 20s, definitely give this tune a listen. I don’t know how Breaux does it, but he’s the man.

Genre: Drum and Bass

Kimyan Law has to be one of my new favorite artists. This track is off his recently released album ‘Zawadi’. I love his African and Jungle influences.

Genre: House

There are a few remixes out of this Jax Jones tune, but this is my favorite one. Recommended if you want to get your house dance on.

Genre: Trap

Most certainly one of the lesser aggressive trap tunes out there. One of my favorite parts of this tune is the vocal snippets.

Ekali’s trap spin on this tune is unreal. Be sure to put the volume up on this one.

Perfect tune for an afternoon by the beach or lounge with your favorite cocktail. The combination of vinyl-scratch sounds, piano, and old school vocals are stunning.

Top Monthly Tune Recap – April 2016

Hi Folks! After a short break from March, I’ve returned with a fresh recap of April’s top tunes. Here we go:

1. Lexer – Disrupted Signals

Genre: Deep House

Lexer is definitely in my top three producer/musician list. All his tracks are packed with emotion and so well crafted. Disrupted Signals is a single from his latest EP ‘Forgive Me’.

2. Lewis Del Mar – Loud(y)

Genre: Indie

Fans of Alt-J will definitely gravitate to Lewis Del Mar as they are strikingly similar. I love the rebellious vibe from this tune and bonus points for being NYers.

3. Kiiara – Gold

Genre: Pop

One of those catchy tunes you want to put on repeat. Not much substance via lyrical content, however, I love the chopped treatment.

4. Coldplay – Adventure Of A Lifetime (Yotto Remix)

Genre: House

I first heard of Yotto from Anjunadeep’s roster. Definitely an emerging talent, this track shows off his skills by remixing an already popular Coldplay tune with house vibes.

5. David August – J.B.Y

Genre: Tech House

Nice combination of echoed vocals, claps, mellow undertones, and extra sound effects.

6. Beats Antique – You The Starry Eyed (Blockhead Remix)

Genre: Electronic

I love this remixed tune because it makes me feel like I’ve stepped back into the 70s. Have a listen.

7. DOSEM – Untold Stories

Genre: Techno

Debuting on Dosem’s new label Houstrike, this is the title tune from a recent EP. You’ll definitely appreciate the production value that goes into each Dosem track. Untold Stories combines many intricate sounds and patterns, making this a real standout tune.

8. Nick Jonas – Close ft Tove Lo

Genre: Pop

I tend to not add many mainstream tracks to my countdown, but this is one catchy tune I couldn’t refuse. I love anything Tove Lo is on, but the addition of Nick Jonas makes this vocal magic. The lyrical content goes deeper and more meaningful on this one too.

9. FAIRCHILD – Breathless

Genre: Indie

This tune is a bit older than some of the tracks featured on here, but I’ve recently discovered it. Breathless combines both an 80s synthy feel with an updated string/electronic sound. Enjoy the mellow tune.

10. Davidian – Bode

Genre: Tech House

A pleasantly bouncy house tune.
