Much love and here’s to a new year,
_Sam

1. Lookas & Able Heart – On My Own

Genre: Trap

What makes this tune is the stellar vocals from Able Heart.

2. DROELOE – Backbone ft Nevve

Genre: Electronic

A tune with another set of awesome vocals from Nevve. Love the message this tune relays to its’ listeners – get up and go do something.

3. Lost Frequencies – Send Her My Love (R.O Remix)

Genre: Dance

This tune is dedicated to all those who got away. I was in love with the original, but this remix is fantastic. Get ready to be both in deep thought, and head bob simultaneously.

4. Lauv – I Like Me Better (Hälder Remix)

Genre: Trap

I love this tune because I can visualize a complete story when I listen to it. Enjoy this awesome remix.

5. ZHU – Hometown Girl (Khamsin Remix)

Genre: Dance

ZHU’s tracks are amazing enough, so remixes are no easy task. Khamsin puts a beautifully chill spin on ‘Hometown Girl’. Get ready for some summer vibes.

6. Taska Black – Sandpaper (ft. Ayelle)

Genre: Electronic

This month is all about the vocals. Ayelle provides soothing vocals set up against an emotional backdrop.

7. Autograf – Smells Like Teen Spirit (ft. Queen Sessi)

Genre: Electronic

As a huge Nirvana fan, I was a bit hesitant to check this tune out. I’m glad I did. It’s a lovely (and much more subdued) take on the original. Kudos Autograf.

8. Marc Goone – rewind (prod. judge)

Genre: Hip-Hop

Continuing with the vocal theme this month, enter Marc Goone. Rewind is a solid musical introspection on the past.

9. A Different Way (Noizu Remix) [feat. Lauv]

Genre: Dance

Heading to the end of this month’s countdown, I wanted to add something a little less heavy. This is a great remix of one of the biggest tunes of last year.

10. Tchami – World To Me (feat. Luke James)(MK Remix)

Genre: House

With all the 90s nostaglia floating around, I get that kind of vibe with this track.

It’s been a while music fans but I’m back at it. Please enjoy September’s recap:

1. Kill Paris – Red Lights (Feat. Dotter)

Genre: Dance

This month’s recipient of the broken repeat button goes to Kill Paris and this tune. Listeners who enjoy disco vibes will love this one.

2. Drm Prty – Body Talk (Simon Field Remix)

Genre: House

Basement grooves in full effect for this tune.

3. DJ Wady & Patrick M – Hulk – CamelPhat Re-Fix

Genre: House

You’ll enjoy this tune for the deep feel and house vocals.

Genre: Deep House

Definitely a tune you’ll want to dance to. I’m also a sucker for a good horn effect.

6. Redondo, UnoMas & Teo Mandrelli – I Want U

Genre: Dance

Yes summer may be officially over but that doesn’t mean summer tunes can’t still be released. This tune will put you in a feel-good, dance mood.

7. Dustycloud – Lifted

Genre: Future House

If you’ve been to this site before the name Dustycloud should be no stranger. Dustycloud releases another banger with his signature style.

8. Thook – Menace to Society

Genre: Trap

I’m so glad I came across Thook. His production style is phenomenal. You’ll be pleasantly surprised by all the different sounds that drop in and out of this trap tune.

9. Enschway – Over U (feat. Yeah Boy)

Genre: Electronic

My first listen into the world of Enschway came with the tune ‘I’ll Wait’. While that was a hard tune to follow, ‘Over U’ contains the same head bobbing feels.

Genre: House

If you’re into progressive sounds, you’ll enjoy this tune.

Top Monthly Tune Recap – April 2017

I can’t believe it’s already that time again. This year is moving in a hurry! Without further delay, here is your top tune recap for April:

1. Moby – Are You Lost In The World Like Me (Bite Me Remix)

Genre: Trap

One criterion for my top tune is the its’ replayability. This tune has been on repeat for a while. I love the trap take on this, but it’s the lyrics that get me everytime.

2. Khen – Baby Steps

Genre: Progressive House

This is my favorite tune of Khen’s latest EP. This is the perfect tune for a late night drive or winding down at a club. The real magic happens around the 3:00 min marker.

3. Ólafur Arnalds – Öldurót (Tontario Remix)

Genre: Deep House

I still get chills everytime I listen to this tune. Öldurót is probably the most emotional song in this entire recap. Keep an ear out for the crackling bottle sounds.

4. Terror Reid – Uppercuts

Genre: Hip Hop

If you’ve been following my recaps for a while, you know I’m not a huge hip-hop fan. However, once I heard Uppercuts, I had to include it in my top recap. I love Terror Reid’s effortless flow and the old school beat.

5. Xan Young – Honest

Genre: Electronica

This happens to be the oldest tune in my recap, but I only recently found out about it! The combination of smooth, r&b-ish vocals with synths and claps is amazing.

6. Cirez D – On Off (Pryda Remix) [Pete Tong – BBC Radio 1]

Genre: Progressive House

I came across a comment relating to this track ‘Prydzception’. I couldn’t think of a better way to describe this hah. For those that are not familiar, Pryda is an alias of Eric Prydz. So is Cirez D. Yep.

7. Big Wild – Empty Room (feat. Yuna) [Elderbrook Remix]

Genre: Electronica

Elderbook’s remix of this tune is great. Part disco feel, part jazz funk, this tune is made for a summertime party.

8. Alex Preston & Dave Winnel – Never Meant To Last ft. Javeon (VIP Mix)

Genre: House

Summer. Festival. Season.

9. Bontan & Josh Butler – Call You Back

Genre: Tech House

Anything Bontan or Josh Butler is an automatic win for me. This is a fun tech house tune with a catchy hook.

10. Matt Lange – Clever Girl

Genre: Rock

I’ve been a fan of Matt Lange for a long time now. His work is constantly envolving. Since his recent departure off on his own (self-releasing tracks), his sound has changed as well. Clever girl features all vocals and instrumentals by Matt.

Top Monthly Tune Recap – February 2017

Greetings party people. Without further ado, I present my top tune recap for the month of February. Enjoy!

1. JOYRYDE – Hot Drum

Genre: Future House

JOYRYDE is my favorite artist of the year so far (it’s only February). The best part of this tune is where the drums kick in. Go, listen, now!

2. Mosa Wild – Smoke

Genre: Indie

I’m a big fan of the band The National and Mosa Wild definitely parallels that band. The beauty of this tune lies in the emotion it evokes – particularly that of loss.

3. Shout (Grum Remix)

Genre: Trance

This is a really great trance take on the classic Tears for Fears tune ‘Shout’.

4. Lane 8 – In My Arms

Genre: House

Lane8 has been featured in my countdowns a few times and for good reason. His production skills are amazing. His latest track features a beautiful blend of synths and minimal vocals.

5. Nora En Pure – Diving With Whales (Daniel Portman Remix)

Genre: Progressive House

Nora En Pure tunes are already perfection. This remix does the original tune justice, maintaining much of its’ original beauty, with subtle tweaks.

6. Jynx – Honey

Genre: House

This tune is off the latest EP Saffron City. Definitely one of the edge cases where a choppy composition and disjointedness work.

7. Hervé – My Love feat. Phizzals (KC Lights Remix)

Genre: House

A bouncy house tune remix. Time to dance.

8. Maroon 5 – Cold (Audio) ft. Future

Genre: Pop

What drew me most to this tune were the relatable lyrics. There are many of us out there that have been through confusing or failed relationships, often times the other party creeping away for what seems like no good reason. Check out the lyric snippet:

Are we taking time, or a time out?
I can’t take the in-between
Asking me for space here in my house
You know how to f*k with me

9. Gladiator – Sierra

Genre: Trap

You’ll want to put the volume up for this fresh trap tune.

10. Blvmenkind – Dream With You (feat. Sam Darton)

Genre: Electronic

Fans of ambient or chill music will enjoy this tune. I love the dreamy vocals. This is the perfect track for a long drive or a lounge on the beach.

1. Breaux – Third Man

Genre: Trap

I absolutely love the trap spin on classic beats. If you want to be transported to the 20s, but a cooler, more futuristic version of the 20s, definitely give this tune a listen. I don’t know how Breaux does it, but he’s the man.

Genre: Drum and Bass

Kimyan Law has to be one of my new favorite artists. This track is off his recently released album ‘Zawadi’. I love his African and Jungle influences.

Genre: House

There are a few remixes out of this Jax Jones tune, but this is my favorite one. Recommended if you want to get your house dance on.

4. Lakuno – Echo (Ft. Bahar Dopran)

Genre: Trap

Most certainly one of the lesser aggressive trap tunes out there. One of my favorite parts of this tune is the vocal snippets.

5. Paul Woolford – Father

Genre: Electronica

This tune was recently released off Woolford’s aptly titled ‘Father, Son & Holy Ghost’ LP. A very spiritually charged tune.

Genre: Dance

This month’s feel-good tune.

9. BANKS – Gemini Feed (Swell Remix)

Genre: Trap

I’m a fan of the original BANKS tune, but this remix is pretty solid.

10. Closer Water (Kap Slap Mashup)

Genre: Dance

This is a pretty cool mashup of Halsey’s ‘Closer’ and Major Lazer’s ‘Cold Water’.

Genre: Electronica

If I did the soundtrack for the show Mr. Robot, I feel like this would fit perfectly in an episode – dark vibes combined with interesting synths and chill tempo.

Genre: Progressive House

Awesome bassline and great build up / release on this tune.

9. ShoffyMusic – Up Here

Genre: House

Great summer house tune.

10. Denny White – Sweetness

Genre: Indie / Pop

Venturing solo from the group Golden Coast, this is Denny’s debut as a solo artist. I love the vocals and percussion work. Definitely see this getting serious airplay.

Genre: Trap

Ekali’s trap spin on this tune is unreal. Be sure to put the volume up on this one.

Genre: Indie

Yes it’s a Bieber track. However, and a BIG however, this cover is wayyy better than the original tune. Have a listen – you’ll find it hard to disagree.

Perfect tune for an afternoon by the beach or lounge with your favorite cocktail. The combination of vinyl-scratch sounds, piano, and old school vocals are stunning.

It’s time for September’s top tune recap.

1. Fausttt – La Tengo

Genre: Trap

Dear god, the bass. The bass! Enough said…

2. MitiS – Mirages

Genre: Progressive House

MitiS should be renamed Midas, because everything he touches turns to gold. (See what I did there??) This is another lovely track with a chill vibe. Solid production as usual.

3. Henrik Zuberstein – Elicit Response

Genre: Trance

Fantastic progressive vibe on this tune. It sounds really otherwordly, which is a cool positive.

4. Solid Stone – Signs Of The Future

Genre: Progressive House

I first heard this track on my favorite radio program, Cycles Radio. Solid Stone takes you on a progressive journey with this one, highlighted by some great drum sounds. I wish the audio were longer.

5. Alex O’Rion – Koi Koi

Genre: Trance

I absolutely fell in love with work of Alex O’Rion based on this tune. This is a beautiful one.

6. Luke Cusato – All Over You (Selva Remix)

Genre: Future

Another great bass track. I love the vocals by Luke.

This is my favorite tune off of Matt Lange’s newest album, Ephemera. Get ready for the dark, industrial vibe + unique sounds Matt Lange is known for cooking up.

8. Roger Sanchez feat Stealth – Remember Me (Spada Remix)

Genre: House

It is a requisite to have at least one dance worthy tune on this countdown. Spada achieves that with this remix.

9. Eekkoo – Warren Avenue

Genre: Techno

Based on the origins of techno. Solid production behind this tune.

10. James Hype – Still Want Me

Genre: Garage

Another tune to get your dance on. Solid basement party number.

Top Monthly Tunes – August 2015

It’s time for August’s top tunes recap.

1. Hayden James – Something About You (Cut Snake Edit)

Genre: House

I may have single-handedly been responsible for 10K plays on this tune (Joking of course, or am I??). Definitely a bouncy dance number ready for big speaker treatment.

2. SevenDoors – Movement Of Whale

Genre: Deep House

The halfway point of this tune is quite amazing. The beat slows down, builds up, and releases into the last half of the tune. Beautiful listen on this one.

3. Petter Carlsen – Never Leave Me (Tinlicker Remix)

Genre: Electronic

Love the dark, industrial-like vibe. The vocals are great. The headphones especially love the kicks.

4. ZHU – Faded (Ruobin Remix)

Genre: Deep House

There are a lot (I mean ALOT) of Faded remixes out there. It’s hard to compete with the greatness of the original. This remix comes pretty close. It’s a cool take, preserving the vibe of the original, while adding some really cool measured (clock-like) sounds.

5. Nicolas Luce – Trust You

Genre: House

I want to be at a sweaty, packed, basement party listening to this (ok, maybe not so sweaty or packed, but you get the idea of the vibe I’m going after).

6. I’m Not A Band – Cages (Christian Löffler Remix)

Genre: Electronic

A very clean, chill tune with another set of lovely vocals. The slight echo on the vocals produce a hauntingly beautiful effect.

7. Palace – Too Young ft Ziggy (Kyle Watson Remix)

Genre: House

I like the combination of house beats with hip hop flair from Ziggy.

8. Jack Ü ft. Justin Bieber – Where Are Ü Now (Reevo & David Bulla Remix)

Genre: House

I am NOT a beebs fan, however, I love Jack Ü, and this is a pretty great remix. Go ahead, get your dance on.

9. Fetty Wap – 679 (K Theory Remix)

Genre: Trap

I like most of the tunes I’ve heard from Fetty Wap, and K Theory can crank out some sick trap tunes – this remix showcases that.

10. Bronze Whale – Weird Dark Things (Ft. Khai)

Genre: Trap

I can appreciate artists who hold off on the final product until they deem it’s perfect. Bronze Whale waited until they found the right set of vocals for this and they succeeded.
